My name is Johan Stuart, and I am the creator of The Steak and Rib website. I am a qualified chef working alongside one of my best friends in a superb local restaurant in Chicago, Illinois, one of the largest cities in the United States. As well as working as a chef, I spend a significant proportion of my time creating new recipes and updating this blog!
It has always been a dream of mine to work as a chef, ever since I was a child. It then often comes as a surprise to most to learn that I did not initially train at college to work in such an environment and I qualified with a degree in engineering! The reason was only that my parents were keen on me to work in a situation where they felt I could be guaranteed a good wage, work reasonable hours and progress steadily through the ranks. However, I had slightly different ideas!
When I left college, I was lucky enough to be offered the chance by one of my long-time friends to train in the restaurant business. He had long known of my desire to get into this business, and he was looking for a replacement chef to take over when his current one went into his much-needed retirement. To say I was excited was an understatement, and I jumped at the chance.
By the time I had finished my training with the restaurant, I knew this was exactly where I was meant to be, and any ideas of utilizing my engineering degree disappeared from my thoughts. However, my parents could see the transformation in me and realized that I was determined to achieve this way of life, so they backed me entirely with my new venture.
Why I Created The Steak and Rib
Not only do I continue to work in the restaurant, but I also like to experiment with new dishes when back at home and in the comfort of my kitchen. I guess you could say that I am obsessed with food – but it is a good fixation! I decided to begin sharing my many innovative dishes with a group of friends who would congregate in my apartment once a week to sample my newest inventions. It was during one of these Johan Specials nights, as we liked to call them, that I came up with an idea for a blog. I was desperate to share my findings with as many people as I could, and the best way I could do this was to get my work out online for a much more comprehensive community.
This blog began as a small side project which saw me add one or two posts to it per week when I got the chance. However, it was to soon grow to epic proportions as word got around, in part thanks to many satisfied restaurant critics and, of course, family and friends. Before I knew what was happening, I had found myself with an audience of over 16,000 monthly visitors!

What began as a way of adding one or two recipes has now grown to include articles, relevant content and different adverts. It appears that there is a vast audience out there who are looking for food writers with passion and flair in what they write about, and that is precisely what you will find amongst these web pages.
